ABOUT JOHNSTOWN

Johnstown is located just west of the confluence of the Big Thompson River and the Little Thompson River. The town of 20,000 offers the perfect balance of old town Colorado (check out the quaint restaurants and coffee shops on N. Parish Ave) and convenience.

Johnstown was founded in 1902 by Harvey J. Parish, and he saw great potential for a town along the Great Western Railway. Parish’s youngest son, John, was the town’s namesake. When seven years old, John was rushed to a hospital with a ruptured appendix and his father told him to “hurry up and get well” because their town was being named “John’s Town” in his honor. On November 8, 1902, Johnstown was established and not only did John recover, but he later served as Johnstown’s mayor from 1929 to 1934. Early town growth was influenced by the railway and the surrounding agricultural land, including the Mohawk (later Carnation) Condensed Milk Company and the Great Western Sugar Company.
