ABOUT MILLIKEN

A skosh west of Johnstown and I-25, Milliken's 10,000 residents appreciate the slower lane, with access to the South Platte River, Big Thompson and Little Thompson Rivers, and nine city parks. This is perhaps one of the most affordable housing communities in northern Colorado.

Milliken's roots trace back to the 1860s when the town was a trading post named Hillsboro, strategically located along the Denver, Laramie, and Northwestern Railroad railroad line. In 1909, the town was platted and named Milliken in honor of Judge John D. Milliken.

Fires in the 1910s, along with the railroad's eventual abandonment in 1917, led to years of decline. However, Milliken persisted, with agriculture, particularly sugar beets, potatoes, corn, and wheat, becoming a central part of the economy.

AMENITIES OF THE
MILLIKEN COMMUNITY

Milliken and Johnstown seem like sister towns to me, mostly because of their proximity to each other along Hwy 60. Milliken has an elementary school and middle school, while Johnstown has an elementary school and the high school, all part of the Weld Re-5J School District and one of the fastest growing school districts in the state. Milliken’s coffee shops, restaurants, and specialty stores are supplemented by nearby Johnstown’s grocery store and larger variety of eateries and stores. Hwy 60’s I-25 entrance makes commuting and weekend trips to Denver low-key, and most folks head towards Loveland or Fort Collins when it comes to healthcare and specialty shopping.
